CE marking
If you manufacture or import a product which falls within the scope of one or more of the New Approach Directives and wish to sell your product in a market in any of the member states of the European Economic Area (EEA), then you must apply CE marking to your product against the essential requirements of all these applicable directives.
In many cases the compliance route will require you to use a Notified Body to assist with your certification. A ”Notified Body” is a testing, inspection or certification body or organisation – such as BSI – that is notified to the European Commission by its Member State’s Competent Authority, (such as BERR or DTI) to carry out certain tasks prescribed within one or more European Directives.
The essential requirements of the New Approach Directives differ from directive to directive and product to product and BSI can help you with your certification to the majority of Directives. Read more.
Kitemark
The Kitemark is the world's premier symbol of trust, integrity and quality. Manufacturers having this certification for their product or service will reassure customers and specifiers alike that they have satisfied the most rigorous of quality processes.
A Kitemark scheme can be developed using a publicly available specification. The specification can be either a formal Standard published by BSI as a BS, BS EN, BS ISO, or other national Standard, an informal standard such as a BSI PAS (publicly available specification) or a specification published by a Trade Association.
Every Kitemark scheme operates under a Scheme Protocol that references the technical specification and all other requirements for certification.
In competitive markets, the Kitemark is often used as a point of differentiation, reassuring customers that the company in question has an ongoing commitment to quality and safety.
Ensuring that your supply chain is compliant is vital to making sure that your products are compliant. BSI offer a complete managed compliance and risk management service to help companies through the complex regulatory requirements.
Managed compliance
As the need for compliance becomes more complicated, an expert partner such as BSI can offer guidance throughout the design and manufacturing processes that will reduce valuable time to market, save you money and safeguard your company’s reputation. Involve BSI from the concept stage and we can help you to comply with the regulatory requirements of new products or markets, providing a one-stop shop for testing, mandatory or voluntary certification and compliance issues, wherever your business is located.
Risk management
The risks of non-compliance in a regulated market are clear. Products that do not comply cannot be put on the market. But in non-regulated markets, testing and certification can help you avoid both financial risk and harm to your reputation
